Welwyn Garden City Film Society is one of the longest-standing film societies in the country, having been established shortly after World War II. In the 2017/18 season, it was felt that the future of the Society was in jeopardy because income from memberships had fallen, while costs continued to rise. Fortunately, through the cooperation of members, who agreed to raise the membership subscription and reduce the number of films to ten, the Society is able to survive.
The purpose of the Society is to show the best of contemporary and classic world cinema, in a comfortable and sociable setting. The films are usually selected partly by the Committee and partly by the votes of Members.
This site aims to keep you in touch with the latest information about the Society, its programmes, and film-going in Hertfordshire generally.
The Map of Venue page shows how to reach Garden City Cinema (formerly known as The Hawthorne Theatre) at Campus West.
Our History page tells you something about the background to the Society and news of what's happening to the Society at the moment.
Turn to our Programme page for details of the complete programme for the season, starting in September.
